Behind-the-Scenes Look: Baymeadows Movers Partners with Chipman and OMA to Haul Away Legacy Equipment from AMC Theatres

July 20, 2026

Most folks walk into a movie theater thinking about the movie they're about to watch. They notice the giant screen, comfortable seats, and maybe the smell of fresh popcorn. What they don't see is all the work happening behind the scenes to make that experience possible—or what it takes when it's time to decommission decades of equipment and make way for the future.

Recently, Baymeadows Movers was able to partner with Chipman Relocation & Logistics on a one-of-a-kind commercial moving project via our membership in the Office Moving Alliance (OMA). As a team, we helped with the removal of outdated projection equipment from several AMC Theatre locations. It wasn't your standard commercial move. It required careful planning, specialized equipment, experienced crews, and seamless coordination between dependable relocation partners.

Jobs like these are one of the reasons we love what we do. No two commercial moves are ever exactly alike, and that's what keeps our work exciting.

Every Commercial Move Has a Story

Every Commercial Move Has a StoryAmong the finest elements of commercial moving is the variety.

In one week we're relocating an entire school before students come back for the new year. The next we're transporting physical therapy equipment to a new healthcare facility. Next we find ourselves inside a movie theater, carefully dismantling and removing equipment that has entertained millions of people over the years.

This AMC project was notably memorable because it involved removing large digital cinema projection systems, as well as several pieces of historic 35mm projection equipment. Walking into the projection booths felt like traveling back in time. Some of the film projectors and reels had been part of the movie-going experience long before digital projection was established as the industry norm.

For film fans, it was fascinating.

For our crew, it was a reflection that every piece of equipment we move carries its own story.

Great Projects Begin with Careful Planning

Great Projects Begin with Careful PlanningProjects like this don't begin when the moving truck pulls up.

Long before the first projector is taken down, our team plans out logistics, scheduling, access points, equipment requirements, manpower, and safety planning.

Collaborating with Chipman Relocation & Logistics, we managed every phase of the project to ensure each theater could be completed efficiently and safely. One of the top advantages of being part of the Office Moving Alliance (OMA) is having access to a nationwide network of highly experienced commercial movers who share the same commitment to professionalism and customer service. By combining Chipman's national relocation expertise with Baymeadows Movers' local knowledge and project management experience, we were able to carry out the work seamlessly from start to finish.

Movie theaters weren't built with equipment removal in mind.

Projection booths are often tucked away on upper levels with slim passageways, constricted doorways, and limited access. Some sites have elevators, while others don't. Moving large projection systems through those spaces involves much more than simply putting them on a dolly and wheeling toward the truck.

Each challenge needs to be anticipated before any work begins.

That's when experience truly matters.

It's About More Than Just Muscle

It's About More Than Just MuscleMany people assume moving heavy equipment is just about brute strength.

The reality is that commercial moving hinges on preparation, technique, and using the right tools for the job.

Undertakings like the AMC equipment removal call for specialized dollies, rigging equipment, lift systems, protective materials, and seasoned crews who know how to safely navigate oversized equipment through narrow spaces.

Each projector had to be carefully disconnected, protected, moved through the building, and securely loaded for transport.

Most of these systems are not only heavy—they're also extremely delicate. One accidental bump into a doorway or uneven transition could result in significant damage.

Communication and patience are just as important as physical strength.

Safeguarding the Building Is Equally Important

While our focus is on carefully moving equipment, we're equally focused on protecting the customer's facility.

Commercial buildings represent a significant investment, and even modest repairs can prove disruptive and expensive.

When a project is finished, our goal is for customers to remember how smoothly everything went, not the moving process itself.

Teamwork Makes the Difference

Big commercial moving projects are not a single-person task.

Each member of the crew has a specific role, and communication is key from start to finish.

One person may be steering equipment through a doorway while another manages the load. Someone else is watching clearances, while another team member is preparing the next piece for transport.

When seasoned crews work together, there's a rhythm that takes shape. That's expertise that can't be taught overnight.

Seeing our team work together was a clear example of what happens when experienced movers share the same dedication to safety, communication, and customer service.

A Little Enjoyment Along the Way

Working inside movie theaters certainly had its perks.

Our crew couldn't help slipping downstairs for a handful of movie snacks in between jobs on the project. After spending the day behind the scenes where few people ever get to go, popcorn for some reason tasted even better.

Such moments make long workdays memorable and remind us that while we take our work seriously, we also love what we do.

Commercial Moving Goes Beyond Transportation

Commercial Moving Goes Beyond TransportationMost people believe moving companies just load trucks and unload them at another location.

Commercial moving is so much more than that.

These projects often involve logistics planning, inventory management, warehousing, project management, scheduling, specialized equipment handling, and coordinating several contractors.

Every customer has different needs.

Certain businesses must relocate hundreds of employees in a weekend.

Some need sensitive medical equipment transported without disruption.

Many projects occur overnight to minimize downtime.

Others—like the AMC project—involve carefully removing specialized equipment from unique environments.

Every relocation requires flexibility, planning, and problem solving.

At Baymeadows Movers, when someone asks, "Can you help with this?" our first thought is almost always, "Let's figure out how."

Real Experience Builds Confidence

For decades, Baymeadows Movers has been proudly serving Jacksonville and Northeast Florida, and we've found that successful projects always hinge on the same core principles:

Preparation.

Communication.

Professionalism.

Trust.

Our customers know we'll arrive prepared, stay in touch throughout the job, respect their property, and solve problems instead of creating them.

No matter if we're working inside schools, hospitals, office buildings, warehouses, government facilities, entertainment venues, or commercial campuses, our approach is always the same.

Protect the customer.

Protect the equipment.

Finish the work safely.

Leave the site better than we found it.

Preserving a Piece of Movie History

Preserving a Piece of Movie HistoryOne of the surprising highlights of this project was seeing some of the original 35mm projection systems that once brought countless movies to life.

Well before streaming services and digital cinema, these machines created lasting experiences for generations of moviegoers.

Being right there with them gave our crew a genuine appreciation for how much technology has progressed over the years.

It's not every day that a moving company has the opportunity to help retire a small piece of entertainment history.

Speaking for us, it truly was a moment we will never forget.
